Day 1: Arrive in Srinagar
The most convenient way to reach Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir, would be by flight. Upon landing at the airport, take a cab or taxi to your hotel. Many tour operators in Kashmir include these services in their packages. After checking in, take some time to relax and recover from any jet lag.
For lunch, enjoy a local Kashmiri dish and savor the flavors. Visit Dal Lake, the major tourist attraction in Srinagar, and enjoy a Shikara ride on the lake. Spend the evening exploring the nearby markets. If you stay in a houseboat, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset view. Tasting Kashmiri cuisine is a must every day, so end your day with an authentic Kashmiri dinner.
Day 2: Sonmarg
Wake up to the serene view from your houseboat on Dal Lake. After breakfast, head to Sonmarg, a beautiful hill station and small town located 80 kilometers from Srinagar, taking about 2.5 hours to reach. Sonmarg, meaning "meadows of gold," will captivate you with its breathtaking beauty.
Places to visit include Thajiwas Glacier, where you can enjoy a pony ride, and Krishnasar Lake, perfect for a family picnic and a small trek. You can also enjoy shopping in Sonmarg Market or Main Road Market. Spend the night in a hotel or guesthouse in Sonmarg, and relax for the next day.
Day 3: Gulmarg
On Day 3, head to Gulmarg, located 125 kilometers from Sonmarg (around 3.5 hours). Gulmarg is renowned for its skiing, snowboarding, and skating, and is one of the most famous skiing destinations globally. Don't miss the Gulmarg Gondola, the largest cable car ride, which operates in three stages.
Explore Apharwat Peak, Outer Circle Walk, and Alpather Lake. After enjoying the stunning sunset, relax at your hotel. Since the days are full of activity, ensure you get a good rest for the next day's adventures.
Day 4: Pahalgam
On Day 4, head to Pahalgam, the Valley of Shepherds, located 172 kilometers from Sonmarg, which takes about 5 hours. Pahalgam is famous for its lush meadows, crystal-clear rivers, and stunning peaks in the backdrop. You can enjoy river rafting in the Lidder River or take slow walks along its banks.
Pahalgam is also known for its golf courses, so consider playing golf or taking lessons. Visit the Mamaleshwar Temple for a religious experience. Stay overnight in Pahalgam to continue exploring the area the next day.
Day 5: Betaab Valley & Nearby Places
Start the day in Pahalgam by visiting Betaab Valley, named after the hit movie ‘Betaab.’ It’s located 15 kilometers from Pahalgam and is a base camp for many treks.
Next, visit Aru Valley, where you can enjoy fishing, river rafting, sightseeing, photography, horse rides, and more. You can also set up a picnic or camp here. Don’t miss Chandanwari, the starting point for the Amarnath Yatra. Return to your hotel in Pahalgam for a relaxing night.
Day 6: Back to Srinagar
Spend the morning in Pahalgam, enjoying the scenic views. You can also visit Tulian Lake for meditation or light yoga. In the evening, return to Srinagar, a 90-kilometer journey that takes about 2.5 hours.
Day 7: Explore Srinagar
On your final day, explore more of Srinagar beyond Dal Lake. Visit the Mughal Gardens, including Nishat Garden, Pari Mahal Garden, and Shalimar Gardens, all built by Shah Jahan. If you have time, visit the Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden.
